Around 1947, Khun A-Paiwong, Thailands Prime Minister at the time, requested & got a royal pardon for the islands inmates and thanks to a affable act by His Majesty the King. They were repatriated and conveyed to Suratthani on the nearby mainland and the island was discarded yet again. This was in the same year that the original people laid claim to a big part of terrain on what is at this time known as Sairee Beach. These were the two brothers Khun Ueam and Khun Oh who came to KoToa by a small boat from the neighbouring island of KoPhangan. At first this petite island had no one living on it, visited only by local fishermen from near by islands when looking for shelter during thunder storms or when in need of fresh water and supplies. Kohtao has to offer a lot of popular activities one being diving at most of Kho Tao beaches. In the beginning of 80's brought to Koh Toa some of the very first people from Koh Phangan who were searching for something innovative away from the masses and crowds who were going nuts for the full moon parties on KohPhangan. Here they located something more than just a new island to explore and soon the backpacker groups were energetic about the wonderful newly found island paradise. Mesmerised by the outstanding crystal white beaches, the back of beyond aura, and of course the low-priced living, back packers soon came in droves. Departure and arrivals were on the local fishing boats, and even then hold-ups of several days were frequent. Back to the hammock and a world of dreams; The boat comes another day . As a result, as its standing for beautiful nature, outstanding marine life and amazing landscapes grew, simple access was offered when improved and safer boats were brought in to cope with the number of back packers, being engrossed to the island.
